the unseen soldiers

in the island of the lion
stood the feet of a few
who fought as the soldiers
in a war they only knew

into the paths of unseen
did their battle draw
where enemies were not of flesh
but of unwritten laws

a earthly ignobility
to give up the ways of creation
but for the rest of us
their shame was our salvation

For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against authorities and powers, against the world-rulers of this dark night, against the spirits of evil in the heavens.
